What Is HALO?

How does the Halo laser work?

HALO's technology, utilizing adjustable ablation and non-ablative settings, produces varying effects based on different depth and density levels.

Two Wavelengths:
  • NON-ABLATIVE 1470 nm
    • Adjustable settings are used to select the optimal depth to treat the epidermis and papillary dermis for pigment irregularities, texture, and pore size.
  • ABLATIVE 2940 nm
    • Provides pure ablation with no bulk heating, ensuring faster clearance of Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris (MENDs).
    • Enhances wound healing response with minor ablative injuries, resulting in improved outcomes.
1How Many Treatments Do You Need?
The flexibility of HALO allows you to choose the number of treatments that suit you. Nurse Jacklyn will assess your skin and determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your skin and skin goals. Depending on how much sun damage is present or skin concerns, you may require only one corrective treatment and then one annually to maintain your results. In some cases, patients may require up to three treatments to achieve the desired correction. Then, a maintenance program will be planned, with one to two sessions a year.
2What Happens During the Treatment?
Nurse Jacklyn will apply a topical anesthetic cream to the skin for 45-60 minutes. Then, your skin is measured by the HALO laser motion tracking technology to ensure an even treatment coverage, as no two faces are the same. Once the skin is measured, Nurse Jacklyn will carefully select the desired settings for your treatment, including energy level, depth and coverage. During the treatment, the HALO handpiece is systematically rolled over each measured area until the system recognizes the completion of the treatment.
3What Does HALO Laser Feel Like?
With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, patients typically experience minimal discomfort. Sensations may include heat and prickling, but most find the procedure tolerable. Post-treatment, warmth may persist for 1-3 hours.
4What to expect during your healing from a HALO Laser:
Feeling of warmth - The treated area may be extremely warm for 1-3 hours after the treatment. DO NOT apply ice packs to the skin.

Redness - Redness is normal and expected. Redness generally increases in intensity for the first few days after treatment.  Depending on the treatment intensity, redness can persist for up to 7 days.

MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) - will appear on the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment as tiny dark spots and bronzed appearance to the treated skin. 

MENDs are part of the healing process where treated tissue works its way out of your body as new fresh skin regenerates. During this time, your skin will be very dry and feel like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. Please keep your skin well moisturized to help with the healing process. Do not pick at your skin. 

Swelling - Swelling is common and expected immediately after treatment. 

To avoid further swelling, sleep with your head elevated for the first 2-3 nights after the treatment. Day 2, the first-morning post-treatment, is when swelling is more prevalent, especially under the eyes! This is normal and will subside. You can take an over-the-counter antihistamine such as Benadryl or Reactine to reduce the swelling.

5When Will You See Results?
Initial results become visible as early as five days after your HALO treatment. Your skin will continue to improve over time, with most patients witnessing the most significant pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase that progressively enhances skin quality over months.
6How Long Will Results Last?
HALO results are enduring, but it's crucial to protect your skin using UV sunscreen to preserve your new, healthy skin. Each additional HALO treatment further enhances results, contributing to continually improved skin appearance.
