INJECTABLES
Dermal Fillers
There are several different injectable Dermal fillers available today. Most of these are temporary and made from Hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Other dermal fillers are made from stimulating materials such as collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite and polylactic acid. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®, are the most commonplace and most popular amongst new patients, as hyaluronic acid is more manageable to work with and fully reversible if needed.
How do injectable dermal fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid fillers target volume loss caused by the natural breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the aging process. These fillers work by restoring lost volume, resulting in a more youthful and fuller facial appearance. They effectively lift sagging skin, fill in hollows in the cheeks for contouring and temples to open and lift the eyes and brows. Fillers can also enhance lip volume and restore structure in the chin and jawline.
What is the difference between fillers and botox?
Fillers are injectable gels injected under the skin or bone to mimic bone or fat. They can create structure and restore volume. Botox, on the other hand, treats wrinkles caused by muscles contracting and folding the skin.
What are the most common areas treated with injectable fillers?
Common filler injections include...
Lips
Cheek Contouring
Temples
Laugh Lines
Chin & Jawline
Do fillers hurt?
In general, fillers are well tolerated. However, some areas of the face hurt more than others. Lip injections are very sensitive, whereas cheek filler is often tolerated without topical numbing. Different injection techniques are also better tolerated than others. If desired, topical numbing cream can be applied to the treated area.
How long do fillers last?
Results are visible immediately, and while not permanent, they typically last between 6 to 12 months. Touch-up treatments may be needed sooner in more mobile areas, such as around the mouth and lips (around four months), compared to less mobile areas like the cheeks, jaw, and chin (around 9-12 months). In some cases, fillers have been shown to last years.
