Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® belong to the Botulinum Toxin type A family, a protein complex used as an injectable medication to diminish the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles, formed by repetitive facial expressions, include 'frown lines,' 'crow's feet' around the eyes, and horizontal forehead lines, contributing to an aged, angry, tired, or concerned appearance.
How do Botox® and Dysport® work?
Botulinum toxin injections contain highly purified, naturally occurring proteins that precisely relax the targeted muscles. Once injected, Botox binds to the receptors on the muscle, and as the treated muscles relax, the overlying skin becomes smoother and less wrinkled. Wrinkles are caused by the contraction of the muscle folding the skin. When the muscle is relaxed, the skin maintains its integrity.
The treatment process is gentle and brief. It involves small injections in the designated areas without the need for anesthetic.
Can Botox® and Dysport® be combined with other treaments?
These injectables are frequently combined with other treatments, like dermal fillers, to achieve optimal outcomes. Nurse Jacklyn only uses Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® as they are Health Canada-approved products designed to reduce the visibility of upper face wrinkles.

How long does Botox last?
Results gradually manifest within 4-14 days, and while not permanent, they typically last for 3-4 months. After about three months, the effects gradually diminish, and the treated muscles return to their natural state. Subsequent injections are necessary to maintain results, and the option to discontinue treatments allows a gradual return to the pre-treatment appearance.
Risks and Side Effects
Potential side effects and complications are minimal, including mild discomfort during needle insertion. Minor bruising and mild swelling at the treatment site(s) may occur, but any bruising can be easily concealed with makeup and usually resolves within a few days. Overall, the treatment is considered safe and effective for rejuvenating the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.
