Sun-Related Skin Changes & Healthy Skin
What your skin may be telling you after summer — and what we can do about it.
It has been over six months since my last newsletter, and I honestly cannot believe how quickly that time has gone.
Dominik is growing so fast! I am still working in the clinic, and the last few months have been incredibly busy. Between my clinic days and spending as much time as I can with my family when I’m home, I’ve been meaning to sit down and reconnect with all of you for a while, and I’m really happy to be reaching out again finally.
Over the last month, I’ve noticed the same conversation regarding sun damage coming up again and again with my patients—so I thought this was the perfect reason to sit down and finally write one about some of the common treatments we can do to reverse some of the sun-related changes we are seeing in our skin now that the summer is behind us.
What happened to my skin over the summer?
Fall often reveals what summer left behind: brown spots, redness, uneven pigmentation, dullness and rougher texture. These changes can reflect cumulative everyday sun exposure—even with thoughtful sun protection. Fall is one of my busiest times to address them with a focus on clearer, calmer and healthier-looking skin.
The goal is not necessarily “perfect” skin. It is healthy skin.
So, where do we start?
BBL® BroadBand Light
If brown spots, freckles, redness or visible vessels are the main concerns, I often start with BBL. Controlled light energy from the BBL targets pigment and vascular changes, helping the complexion look clearer and more even. Common treatment areas are the face, neck, chest and hands.
Depending on the degree of sun damage, some patients benefit from a series of treatments, while others with already healthier skin may incorporate BBL periodically for maintenance.
BBL is best for: Brown spots • Freckles • Visible signs of sun exposure • Redness • Rosacea • Broken capillaries • Uneven skin tone

HALO® Hybrid Fractional Laser

For more stubborn pigmentation, texture or fine lines, I may recommend HALO. Its two wavelengths allow me to address superficial changes and the deeper dermis in one customized treatment, supporting collagen remodelling, smoother texture, refined pores and tighter skin.
Think of HALO as a skin-remodelling and resurfacing treatment. I am not simply trying to remove a spot — we are actually removing damaged cells and replacing them with healthy new tissue.
Halo laser is best for: Visible signs of sun exposure • Uneven pigmentation • Dullness • Rough texture • Enlarged pores • Fine lines • Overall skin rejuvenation

ClearSilk® Laser

For patients seeking skin-quality support without disrupting the surface, ClearSilk delivers controlled heat into the dermis to support collagen production.
I often describe ClearSilk as a treatment that helps create that healthy-skin appearance: calmer colour, smoother texture, improved firmness and a natural glow.
ClearSilk laser is best for: Redness • Inflammation • Rosacea-prone skin • Dullness • Fine lines • Collagen stimulation • Healthy-skin maintenance

So… which treatment do you need?
For one patient, the priority may be pigment and redness, making BBL the obvious starting point. Another patient may have years of accumulated sun exposure, along with texture and fine lines, and would benefit more from HALO. Someone else may have relatively healthy skin and benefit from ClearSilk to maintain collagen, calm inflammation and support overall skin quality.
And quite often, these laser treatment options work beautifully together.
My job is not to put everyone through the same treatment protocol. It is to look at your skin, understand what is actually going on and decide which approach best fits your skin, goals, downtime and budget.
Nurse Jacklyn’s Fall Skincare Picks
In-office treatments can play an important role, but what you do with your skin every day matters just as much.
After summer, I focus on three things at home: correcting uneven colour, encouraging healthy cellular turnover, and restoring the skin barrier with the following suggested products:
skinbetter science Even Intensive Skin Tone Correcting Serum
Even Intensive is designed to address the appearance of brown spots, redness and dullness. Its pigment-supporting, resurfacing and antioxidant ingredients help promote a brighter, more uniform complexion.
ZO® Retinol Skin Brightener
ZO Retinol Skin Brightener supports cellular turnover to gradually improve uneven pigmentation, texture and clarity. I recommend introducing it slowly at night according to your skin's tolerance.
skinbetter science Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment
Trio is designed to provide hydration while supporting the skin’s moisture balance and barrier function. This becomes particularly important as we head into cooler weather, when lower humidity and indoor heating take over. When your skin barrier is compromised, your cells do not function properly. An adequate moisture barrier is essential.
A Note from Nurse Jacklyn
If you are looking at your skin this fall and noticing more brown spots, redness, dullness or texture than you remember having in the spring — you are definitely not alone. I have been having this exact conversation in my treatment room every week. We can always start small, make a plan, and slowly chip away at what bothers you most.
As we head into a busy fall season, I encourage you to book your Oakville appointments as early as possible. I am currently booking about 3–4 weeks in advance, and I truly want to do my best to accommodate everyone and make sure you can get in around your schedule and planning around your upcoming events.
I am so grateful for your continued loyalty, trust and support — especially during this very full and special season of life for my family and me. I am looking forward to seeing all of you in the clinic and continuing our skin-health journey together.
And with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I also want to wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you have a beautiful weekend filled with good food, time with the people you love, and a little time to slow down and enjoy it all.
Thank you for sharing this journey with me,
Nurse Jacklyn
